Don't talk too soon

Went over to cut some fruit tree branches this morning to avoid them being broken by the JCB. Nobody there, maybe he misunderstood me when I asked when he would start in the garden; maybe he thought I was asking when he would come back to work.

They're back!

As we were driving past we saw them delivering the digger. It is badly needed as the sides of the Big Hole have fallen in because of the frost. Apparently they are going to start work laying the drains in our garden on Monday next, so let's see what 2011 brings

A little distraction

This has got nothing to do with No  5 but it looked rather pretty.
Weather is much improved - it got into positive double figures today, quite a change from the negative double figures the last few nights.

Now those are big pipes!

These arrived the other day, presumably to help finish the work in the field. Quite how the house will be linked into all this is a mystery. The lumpy bits in the field are the BMX track that can be seen from the Google picture. (This can be accessed by clicking on the main picture at the top of the blog). If this picture, and others, seem a bit distorted, it is because it is made up of several pictures taken on the IPhone stitched together with Autostitch app.

Nobody has been on site today, although some more big tubes have arrived. Will take picture tomorrow.

The hole for the waste is getting bigger

The picture gives some idea of the hole in the ground
A couple of weeks ago the mayor told us the council were going to re-route the drainage around our place and asked if we would mind them having access to the garden because they would need to dig "a bit of a hole". This would give the house completely new mains drainage meeting the new standards. Oh, and it was at the council's cost. We pondered for several nanoseconds before agreeing. This is the hole on the playing field next us to which we will be joined! The capped off manhole covers are about 3 metres down.

Tuesday 8th December

Work begins. The foreman is on site.
